A new fashion is emerging that features both men's outdoor clothing and women's outdoor clothing, it has been suggested.
In a feature on the subject, outdoor magazine Grough said that the 'Wainwright look' - based on the sartorial approach of famous fellwalker and author Alfred Wainwright - is becoming the height of high street fashion.
The news provider quoted several papers on the subject, including the Daily Mail, which was told by director of menswear buying at Debenhams Paul Baldwin: "Men and women have fallen in love with the rugged outdoor image the hillclimbing clothing style portrays."
He added: "At one time, these specialist clothes would have been bought only by long-distance hillwalkers and mountaineers."
Alfred Wainwright is best known for his seven pictorial guides to the fells, which were written in the 1950s and 60s.
Illustrated by his own hand, the guides gained a cult following among walkers and climbing all 214 'Wainwrights' has become a popular challenge.
He also devised the Coast-to-Coast Walk that crosses England from St Bees Head in Cumbria to Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire.
Sherpa Outdoor Wow, cool post. I'd like to write like this too - taking time and real hard work to make a great article... but I put things off too much and never seem to get started. Thanks though.
